THE LESSON
Let's understand the essentials.
Reliable prompts specify the goal, inputs, output format, constraints, and what the system should do when information is missing. Good prompting begins with designing a verifiable task, not magical keywords.
For factual work, request source citations and test them. For structured work, give a schema and examples of unknown values. For decisions, state the tradeoffs and ask for uncertainty.
Rewrite 'summarize this' as a request for claims, evidence, owners, dates, and unresolved questions grounded only in an attached source.
CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING
How would you verify a model hasn't invented a date or customer name?
Explain your answer in your own words, then compare it with the main concepts above.
